Rhapsody in Blue

THE BOILER ROOM - BOLIVAR, MISSOURI

DECEMBER 2016

35' x 20'

This collaborative project with Linda Pepper and Diane Denton was completed for a music venue, the Boiler Room. The owner has a daughter who is a saxophonist and he wanted to create a venue for her to play her music one day.

The inspiration for this work is the lively jazz song, "Rhapsody in Blue." You can see the opening run of the tune emerging from the cityscape on the right. We felt the song reminded us of a bustling city at night, so our idea was born. Our collective signature, "DEL," appears on the center building resembling an amplifier, each letter representing one of the three artists.

This was the very first mural I ever did, and I learned a lot in the process. We started our design on paper, using a collage technique to assemble the composition, we then took photos and projected it onto the wall. It took us a month to complete, working on it only a few hours every day.

Special thanks to David Platter and Jeff Kutcha
